Toronto City Council Seeking Members for Music Advisory Council

Last week, MusicOntario & CIMA observed a meeting of the Toronto Economic Development Committee, wherein a unanimous vote was passed to adopt the Terms of Reference for a Toronto Music Advisory Council. The committee plans to begin searching for individuals involved in Toronto’s music industry immediately, as these individuals will be formally appointed at the December 16th City Council meeting.

As such, the city has opened a call for applications to the council, open to anyone with the relevant music industry experience and qualifications.The Music Advisory Committee will be responsible for advising City Council on strategic planning, outreach and networking, advocacy and policy development on all matters pertaining to Toronto’s music industry. The committee will consist of up to 21 members, including representatives from all facets of the music industry, including venue owners, managers, studio owners, record labels, publishers, trade associations, artists and more.

The membership and background materials have been posted to the city’s website. The deadline for submissions is 11:59 p.m., Tuesday December 3rd, 2013. Interviews will be held the following week.
