Grant Writing Summer School

There are ton of grant programs available to artists and industry in Canada – some focus on economic and commercial ROI, others based purely in artistic practice, and all very competitive, requiring planning, strategy, and investment of your own time and resources. Join MusicOntario across these four sessions to learn the difference between various programs, delve into best practices for writing and compiling applications, and learn how to apply what to you’ve learned to your own projects. A few hours invested this summer can set you up for big moves for the fall!

Session 1: The Big Four: Granting Bodies 101

June 17, 2024, 2:00-3:30pm (Zoom Webinar)

Kick off our Grant Writing Summer School with an overview of four of the largest granting bodies accessible to artists and emerging industry in Ontario. Representatives from FACTOR, Ontario Creates, Ontario Arts Council, and Canada Arts Council will explain what their organizations do, give detail on the types of grants they offer, and share advice on how to prepare a competitive application!

Session 2: Deep Dive into Economic Development Grants

June 19, 2024, 6:00-7:30pm (Zoom Webinar)

During this roundtable, we’ll dig deep with experienced grant writers to explore best practices in putting together compelling application packages for economic programs such as those offered by FACTOR and Ontario Creates.

Session 3: Deep Dive into Artistic Practice Grants

June 26, 6:00-7:30pm (Zoom Webinar)

Experienced Grant writer, Kingsley Swim, will discuss specific best practice and case studies regarding more artistic practice-based grant programs, such as those offered by Ontario Arts Council (OAC) and Canada Council for the Arts (CCA).

Session 4: MusicOntario Member Exclusive –1-on-1 Feedback and Consultations

Ongoing based on a first-come, first-served basis

MusicOntario Members who attended each of the previous sessions will have an opportunity to sign up for 1-on-1 consultations with an experienced grant writer. During this time, you could:

• Ask them to review your previously submitted grant and provide tips on how improve your next application.
• Discuss upcoming projects and get advice on which grants to apply for and what assets you must develop in advance of applications.
• Review your support material.
