LIVE Music Toronto

Building the Future of Independent Live Music in Toronto
The Canadian Independent Music Association (CIMA), in partnership with MusicOntario, is launching a new initiative designed to strengthen collaboration across Toronto’s independent live music sector.
This initiative will bring together independent venues, festivals, promoters, and presenters operating in Toronto to share knowledge, collaborate on common challenges, and advocate for policies that support a thriving live music ecosystem in the city.
The name and full details of the initiative will be announced later this year. In the meantime, we are inviting organizations across the sector to help shape its development as founding participants.
Why This Initiative Matters
Independent live music plays a vital role in Toronto’s cultural and economic landscape. From grassroots venues to major festivals, the sector provides critical opportunities for artists, supports local jobs, and helps define Toronto’s identity as a global music city.
At the same time, independent operators continue to face growing pressures, including rising operating costs, changing regulatory environments, and increased competition for audiences.
By bringing together organizations across the sector, this initiative aims to strengthen collaboration, support collective advocacy, and help ensure that Toronto’s independent live music community can continue to grow and thrive.
Our Mission
To strengthen and sustain Toronto’s live music ecosystem by uniting Toronto-based independent venues, festivals, promoters, and presenters to share resources, advocate for fair policy, and amplify the cultural and economic value of Toronto’s local live music sector.
Our Vision
A connected and collaborative live music community where independent venues, promoters, and presenters in the for-profit and non-profit sectors thrive as vital anchors of Toronto’s cultural economy.
Who This Is For
This initiative is designed for organizations that play a key role in Toronto’s independent live music ecosystem, including:
- Independent live music venues
- Concert promoters
- Music festivals
- Live music presenters
- Independent event producers
Both for-profit and non-profit organizations are encouraged to participate.
Become a Founding Member
We are currently inviting Toronto-based independent venues, festivals, promoters, and presenters to apply to become founding members of this initiative.
Founding members will have the opportunity to help shape the direction and priorities of the community as it develops, while connecting with peers across Toronto’s live music sector.
Participants will contribute to discussions around shared challenges, opportunities for collaboration, and advocacy efforts that support the long-term sustainability of Toronto’s live music ecosystem.
