Last night our initial workshop series wrapped up, with Reaching New Audiences, a discussion on the basics of marketing your music effectively.

The event started off with an attempt to define just what marketing is. The panelists pointed out that marketing is different than advertising or selling, in that the goal is to create engaging and authentic relationships with fans and superfans.

This was followed up by a discussion on developing key assets that allow any artist to be marketed, whether it be done by themselves or by an agency/label. Tips about creating a great bio, onesheet, photos, and digital assets were handed down in spades, and it was clear that there was a lot to learn.

The panel continued to impart more wisdom about social media, overall marketing strategies, working with brands, and integrating marketing into all four corners of an artists career. In the end, the audience walked away with tools, tips, and insight into marketing themselves to a growing audience.

We’d like to thank our panelists Erin Kinghorn (eEK! Productions), Maureen Spillane (MapleMusic Recordings), Bobby Kimberley (Young Lions Music Club) and Sari Delmar (Audio Blood Media) for sharing their thoughts and advice. We’d also like to thank the generous folks over at TicketBreak for their support, and Foundery for hosting!
