The Sync Licensing Interactive Workshop, hosted by Sustainable Creative Living for MusicOntario, is a hands-on learning experience for musicians looking to break into TV, film, advertising, and video game music placement. The event covers key topics such as sync licensing fundamentals, industry roles, contracts, pitching strategies, and music selection exercises with expert feedback. Participants will gain insights into the business of sync, analyze real-world examples, and receive direct feedback from Danica Bansie, Music Supervisor at Pirate Sounds. The day concludes with a pitching overview, a listening session for participant music, and networking opportunities.
Moderator - Michelle Allman-Esdaille
As the CEO of The HOOK Sync Group, Michelle Allman-Esdaille has made a significant mark in the world of sync licensing, breaking barriers as the only Black female in Canada to own and operate her own sync agency since 2020. Her leadership is not just about business; it’s about creating opportunities and uplifting voices from underrepresented communities. The HOOK Sync Group proudly represents artists, music producers, composers, songwriters, and arrangers within the BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and recognized-as-female communities, ensuring their talents are seen and heard across the entertainment industry.
Under Michelle's guidance, The HOOK Sync Group has secured impressive sync placements, including spots on BET+, HGTV, TLC, VH1, Bravo, CNN and more. These successes are a testament to her deep industry connections and unwavering commitment to showcasing diverse talent.
Moreover, Michelle is the creator of the Sync Music Production Accelerator, developed through her education company Sustainable Creative Living. In its third year, this groundbreaking program empowers Black producers to create music for TV, film, commercials, and video games. Expanding on this mission, Michelle is set to launch new sync-focused courses in 2025, equipping participants with the knowledge and skills to thrive, become competitive and proficient in the world of sync licensing.
Through her visionary leadership and dedication, Michelle is not only transforming the tangibility of sync licensing but also forging a more inclusive, equitable and sustainable future for the music industry. Her work continues to inspire and create pathways for the next generation of diverse talent.
Music Supervisor - Danica Bansie
Danica is a music supervisor at PIRATE SOUND, a full-service audio house based in Toronto. With over a decade of music industry experience,Danica is a former music photographer, writer, and marketer. With a foundation in media & communications, English literature, and film,Danica brings her love of culture and storytelling to all of the projects she works on; whether that be commercial, film or TV. Exceeding the scope of music supervision,Danica is passionate about the sweet spot where underground DIY music meets the music business at large. She aims to champion the indie, and underrepresented musician in any way she can.Danica is a proud juror for the Polaris Music Prize, and a member of the Guild of Music Supervisors Canada.
