Toronto Public Library: Free Audio Workshops and Workshops At The Fort York Branch!
Whether you’re a singer, musician, audio engineer, record producer, or someone who is interested in the music industry, Toronto Public Library invites you to meet our newest Innovator in Residence with audio expertise, Mr. Robert DiVito!
From October 20 to November 30, the multi-talented Robert DiVito will be sharing his expertise in a variety of areas within the music industry through free programs and consultation sessions at the Fort York Branch.

Kick-Off Event: The Audio Industry
Thursday October 23, 2014, 6:30 – 8:00 pm
This lecture will focus on the various roles for audio engineers and the different paths to working in those areas.
The Recording Industry
Thursday October 30, 2014, 1:30 – 3:00 pm
An in depth discussion on the current state of indie artists, labels, distribution, licensing/merchandise, contracts and touring.
Music in the World
Monday November 10, 2014, 6:30 – 8:00 pm
Beyond the art of performance this lecture will focus on the various fields, organizations and freelance work in the music industry.
Funding Music
Monday November 17, 2014, 6:30 – 8:00 pm
Getting your music recorded and sold is a full time job. Paying for it is also a full time job. This lecture will look at various funding models and how to get your project off the ground.
Home Studio Basics*
Saturday October 25, 2014, 2-5pm
This workshop will focus on room treatments, gear selection, listening environments and budgets.
Recording Techniques 101*
Monday November 3, 2014, 5-8pm
We will look at various microphone pickups, microphone selection, pre-amps, accessories and best practices.
Recording an Orchestra*
Friday November 7, 2014, 1-6pm
LIVE studio session on location at Church of the Holy Trinity with g27 Orchestra. (www.groupof27.com) Learn how to record a large ensemble in a reverberant room to achieve a balanced sound that transcribes accurately to stereo. Editing in Logic Audio 101*
Wednesday November 12, 2014, 10 am – 12:30 pm
The basics of audio editing, mixing and formatting in Logic Audio. Will also incorporate workflows to Waveburner for creating RED BOOK and DDP Masters.
Mastering Audio 101*
Saturday November 15, 2014, 3-5pm
This workshop will focus on creating industry format standards. It will look at Mastering for iTunes and developing standards in audio loudness measurement.
Music Video editing in FCPX 101*
Wednesday November 19, 2014, 1-4pm
The workshop looks at basic workflow techniques for single and multi cam shoots, storyboarding, music interpretation and story telling with audio.
Audio for Film*
Monday November 24, 2014, 6-8pm
The basics of mixing for film in stereo, surround sound and the development of 3D Immersive Audio.
The Art of the Mix*
Saturday November 29, 2014, 1:30-4pm
Participants will be given pre-recorded tracks to mix prior to the workshop. The session will be a hands on evaluation of the mixes and a discussion of the techniques used by the participants.
