Phase I of the Massey Hall Revitalization Plan is Underway!
The first phase of Massey Hall's ambitious 7-year revitalization plan kicked off today at an event highlighting the key involvement of government, corporate and private donors in making the project possible. In total, Massey Hall's revitalization is projected to cost $135 million over several phases.
According to the official release from Massey Hall, Phase I includes the following:
Phase 1 will cost $32M and began with the demolition of the Albert Building that was adjacent to the south wall of Massey Hall. It includes the construction of a two-story basement that will serve as the foundation for an addition to the hall and will accommodate a modernized back of house, a first-ever loading dock at Massey Hall, backstage and artist space, as well as technical and production facilities. Phase 1 also includes $9M towards the planning of Phase 2.
In Phase I, both the Government of Canada and the Government of Ontario contributed $8 million each, while private donors included RBC and TD Bank Group, among others.
