MusicOntario is pleased to announce that it has formally joined the Focus On Creators coalition as a supporting partner, along with all 11 other music industry associations that make up the Canadian Council of Music Industry Associations (CCMIA).

Focus On Creators has widespread support from Canada’s creative industries. The initiative’s supporting partners include:

● Music Canada
● The Canadian Independent Music Association (CIMA)
● The Canadian Council of Music Industry Associations (CCMIA)
● The Canadian Music Publishers Association
● The Canadian Country Music Association
● The Writers’ Union of Canada
● The League of Canadian Poets
● The Playwrights Guild of Canada
● Canadian Artists’ Representation/Le Front des artistes canadiens (CARFAC)

The Focus On Creators coalition was formed to re-establish a fair working environment for Canadian artists in light of some major federal cultural policy activities, including the Canadian Heritage Canadian Content in the Digital World policy review, and the upcoming Copyright Act review in 2017.

Focus On Creators has prepared a joint letter to Minister of Canadian Heritage Mélanie Joly urging the government to put creators at the centre of our cultural policy surrounding Canadian content in the digital realm.

The CCMIA is comprised of several provincial and territorial music industry associations in Canada, including: MusicOntario, Alberta Music, Manitoba Music, Music and Film in Motion, Music BC, Music Nova Scotia, Music NWT, Music PEI, Music Yukon, Music/Musique NB, MusicNL and SaskMusic.

Between its various member organizations, the CCMIA represents nearly 8,000 music industry professionals from across the country. Collectively, its membership encompasses artists, managers, publicists, agents, educators, promoters and other music industry entrepreneurs.

We encourage all our MusicOntario creator members, as well as CCMIA members throughout Canada, to add their names to the Focus On Creators letter to Heritage Minister Joly at:  For more information, please contact
