This time around, we’re shining the MusicOntario member spotlight on Goodnight Sunrise, a Toronto-based rock band that just released their fourth studio album, GET A LIFE, and has been lighting up stages across North America.
Meet Goodnight Sunrise
Led by the powerhouse dual vocals of keytarist Vanessa Vakharia and guitarist David Kochberg, Goodnight Sunrise has been making waves since 2011. With over 400 shows under their belt, the band has built a reputation for blending the emotional edge of pop punk with the theatrics and raw energy of classic rock. Their sound is full of big feelings, even bigger hooks, and a spirit that says: rock isn’t a genre — it’s a community.

GET A LIFE leans into honesty and vulnerability with zero filters. Written during the haze of the pandemic, the record is their most direct, cathartic work yet.
From the rebellious roar of “Never Did Never Will” to the pop-punk punch of “I Don’t Mind,” and the brutally relatable “Jealous (Of My Friends)” — Get A Life is about facing chaos, calling out our inner critics, and laughing through the mess. The album’s title track serves as both a mission statement and a wake-up call: let go of what doesn’t serve you, and reclaim your peace.
Their single, “Jealous (Of My Friends)”, taps into that all-too-familiar scroll-induced spiral. You know the one — where your friend just got a promotion, another is posting from some tropical paradise, and everyone seems to have it more together than you. The band leans into the shared absurdity of it all with tongue-in-cheek lyrics that turn comparison into catharsis.
